Cracked Heels Do you suffer from dry, cracked heels? Are you embarrassed about the condition of your feet? Your feet have been sealed off from the world over the winter months and now your thinking that with summer on it's way it is time to get your feet in tip top condition so you can wear your sandals. Cracks in your heels are known as fissures, which are usually caused by dry skin. Deep fissures can become very painful and bleed if you do not take care of them. The skin on and around the outer edge of your heels feels rough and thick and is yellowish to dark brown in color. This is not a pretty sight and can become a nuisance if you start to experience pain when you walk. What Causes Cracked Heals? Standing for long periods of time Treatments: Think of your feet like the tires on your car; they get you where you want to go. Give your feet the time they deserve, look after them like you do the tires on your car. Even though they may not be seen in the cold months they still need to be pampered and taken care of so that they are ready to be put on display at the drop of a hat. Dry, cracked and bleeding heels need instant relief. Applying a heel moisturizing cream twice a day (especially in the evening before bed) Pumice stone or a foot file to reduce the thickness of hard skin (preferrably after your shower or bath as skin is softer) Don't wear thin soled shoes (allows heels to spead/flatten out which causes more pressure) Don't wear open back shoes (no support to heels and heels spread out) Don't use a razor blade of scissors to cut away any of the hard skin (could cause infections and may cut away too much) Foot spa (make sure the water is not hot) Apply a moisturizer to soothe rough dry skin on your feet in the process of taking care of your cracked heels to get soft silky feet.
